From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Society or human society is the manner or condition in which the members of a community live together for their mutual benefit. By extension, society denotes the people of a region or country, sometimes even the world, taken as a whole. Used in the sense of an associaton, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Like other communities or groups, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone. Society, however, can be ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of constituent individuals; it may act to oppress. The urbanization and rationalization inherent in some, particularly Western capitalist, societies, has been associated with feelings of isolation and social "anomie". More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony. From Wikipedia under the

What do you think the role of human service workers will be in the future? Asked by Nezbit - Tue Apr 29 20:35:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Today, the individual is more important than ever. 10 years is a very short time, so I can't cite a documented shift during that time. But people are not marginalized or left out because of individual differences as much as they used to be. For example, people with disabilities are being acknowledged and accommodated for their individual needs these days. 50 years ago, they would lump all children with disabilities (whether mental or physical) in the same classroom and give them a second-rate education. I think that society's responsibility has changed in that we care less about the good of the community. People no longer sacrifice themselves, or at least they're not quiet anymore if they're being ignored. Instead, we care about if our… [cont.] Answered by tritonetelephone - Tue Apr 29 20:54:24 2008 How close is the American society to the society written about in Fahrenheit 451? Q. It seems to me that indoctrination is becoming more prevalent in our society. What are your thoughts? Even if you haven't read Farenheit 451, answer anyway. Out of the classic dystopias--Farenheit 451, Anthem, 1984, and Brave New World, I think America most resembles Brave New World although it incorporates aspects of all four books, especially Orwell's "doublespeak". Answered by Honestly, now - Sun Mar 29 16:28:36 2009 How important are Psychologists to society?
Q. I mean to say can society still function well without the study of Psychology? What are the top reasons why we need it? Or what about other kinds of "soft science" in general? Isn't it more important to know about Quantum Physics, Bioengineering, etc than why people interact the way they do? Asked by Politically Incorrect - Mon Aug 24 18:29:18 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Psychology is useful, but only insofar as it is grounded in reality. Without a thorough knowledge of quantum physics, one's reality is dictated by one's limited senses and the deluded hypotheses one constructs about how things work, based on one's limited senses. It's like Plato's analogy of a man who lives his life in a cave and interprets the world by the shadows he sees cast on the wall by a fire. Since most everyone, including psychologists, are rooted in what I call a Newtonian consciousness, which is based on an outdated and failed theory, then there is likely to be a misunderstanding of why one suffers. The core of psychology is to understand brain chemistry, human behavior, mental disorder, sources of mental anguish, etc. and to… [cont.] Answered by eldelfinalegre - Mon Aug 24 22:02:41 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "society" Quotes about society.
