The term quality of life is used to evaluate the general well-being of individuals and societies. The term is used in a wide range of contexts, including the fields of international development, healthcare, and political science. Quality of life should not be confused with the concept of standard of living, which is based primarily on income. Instead, standard indicators of the quality of life include not only wealth and employment, but also the built environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, and social belonging.

According to ecological economist Robert Costanza:

While Quality of Life (QOL) has long been an explicit or implicit policy goal, adequate definition and measurement have been elusive. Diverse "objective" and "subjective" indicators across a range of disciplines and scales, and recent work on subjective well-being (SWB) surveys and the psychology of happiness have spurred renewed interest.

Also frequently related are concepts such as freedom, human rights, and happiness. However, since happiness is subjective and hard to measure, other measures are generally given priority. It has also been shown that happiness, as much as it can be measured, does not necessarily increase correspondingly with the comfort that results from increasing income. As a result, standard of living should not be taken to be a measure of happiness.

May I have some recommendations for good quality life experience masters degrees that come with transcripts?
Q. I realize the down-side to a life experience degree, but I find myself in need of an advanced degree for a job I am already doing in a foreign country (and have been doing for several years)...and I am completely unwilling to spend the money or effort on a traditional type of program. I need something within a few months. The diploma itself needs to look good. I need transcripts and the ability to have diploma and transcripts verified at least by mail (a fee would be expected). I would like to find a company/school that didn't blatantly advertise life experience degrees and had, as close as possible, the appearance of a traditional distance learning university or a brick and mortar school. In other words, I want it to be as close to… [cont.]

A. I'm really sorry, there is no such thing. I may be an elitist. I have a masters and a JD from top tier colleges. I totally appreciate life experience when hring, but I do not respect any instiution that gives a degree, in its entirety no less, for that. Academics are academics, very different learning from on-the-job-life learning, creating a unique way of thinking. And how would they do it to create a transcript? What are they going to do, break up your acquired skills and fit them under their class titles? And you think that's not going to cost you? I suggest you get a job when you come here, apply for a masters degree part-time at a respectable traditional institution, (or apply first and then get a job) and earn your degree… [cont.]

A. If you're looking for the places where lots of foreigners make their home, try: * San Miguel de Allende * Patzcuaro * Lake Chapala / Ajijic Personally, I would far prefer Morelia, Merida, Veracruz or Guanajuato --- all beautiful cities with plenty of services and modern perks, but also lots of charm plus authentic local culture. Hope you find what you're looking for!
